Start Here: Beginner Roadmap
A guided path for brand-new drummers who want to stop guessing and start building real fundamentals.
Why a roadmap?
How the roadmap works
Follow the path in order
Each level builds directly on the last. Skipping ahead usually means going back. Trust the order.
Hit the practice goal before moving on
Each level has a clear checkpoint. When you can hit it consistently, you're ready for the next level — not before.

Beginner Roadmap
Work through each level in order. Hit the practice goal before moving on.
Setup

Sit correctly, hold your sticks, and understand your kit layout.
Checkpoint
Play a single stroke roll slowly and evenly for 30 seconds without tension in your hands or shoulders.
Unlocks → Level 1: Find the Pulse
Find the Pulse
2–3 weeks
Learn to count quarter notes and eighth notes while keeping steady time with a metronome.

Unlocks → Level 2: First Groove
First Groove
2–4 weeks
Combine hi-hat, kick drum, and snare into your first real rock beat.

Unlocks → Level 6: Practice Routine
Practice Routine
Ongoing
Build a repeatable practice structure that keeps you improving every week.
Checkpoint
Design and follow your own 30-minute practice plan for two weeks in a row.
Unlocks → Intermediate courses and beyond
Practice session template
A simple session structure that works at every level.
- 1Warm up with a slow single stroke roll — focus on relaxed hands
- 2Run your current level's main exercise at a tempo you can play cleanly
- 3Push the tempo 5 BPM above your comfort zone for 2–3 minutes
- 4Drop back down and finish cleanly
- 5Spend the last few minutes playing something fun — no pressure
After the roadmap
Completing the Beginner Roadmap means you can play in time, hold a groove, add fills, and follow a song structure. That's more than most people who "play drums" can say.
From there, intermediate courses go deeper into dynamics, ghost notes, independence, double bass, genre-specific grooves, and song performance. Members get full access to everything as it's released.
If you want faster progress with direct feedback, private 1-on-1 lessons are available.
